How it works
- Enter the odds you bet at and the closing odds for the same selection.
- Optionally add the closing odds of the other outcome(s) to remove the margin.
- Positive CLV means the market moved your way after you bet.
The formula
CLV = odds taken ÷ closing odds − 1 · Edge vs fair close = odds taken × fair closing probability − 1
Worked example
You took 2.20, the price closed at 2.00 and the other side closed at 1.85. CLV = 2.20 ÷ 2.00 − 1 = +10%. Without the margin the fair closing price is 2.08, so your real edge at the close is about +5.7%.
Why it matters
Results take hundreds of bets to settle down; CLV shows within weeks whether you are getting good prices. Pattern90 measures every tip against the closing line.
FAQ
Which closing odds should I use?
Use a sharp bookmaker’s closing price (for example Pinnacle), with the margin removed when you can — that is the closest thing to the true price.
